Talley Abbey
Talley Abbey ruins well worth a look-in. Us dogs can walk through here to a little lake area too, for a quick dip - handy footpaths through the Ruins and out the other end of the Abbey.
However we better have a run in the hills first, so we don't make any deposits within the Abbey Grounds!

Jack recommends the hilly walk in Talley Forest. Many options of different circular walks, all conveniently way-marked with Blue, Yellow or Red Markers which you follow according to the length of circular walk you choose.
Check the map at the beginning of the walk first to determine which colour marker you wish to follow for your walk.
Jack did the two hour blue way marked 'tall trees' walk. This takes you to the top of one of the highest hills around, affording you glorious views over the surrounding countryside.
There is a steady climb through the forest. On a clear day, you are rewarded with excellent views - you can see for miles.
At the top you come to an open space, a plateau, with panoramic views. It is then a nice leisurely down hill walk all the way back, making a lovely circular walk.
After the excellent woodland walk, my master and I can wander through the deserted abbey grounds, onto further footpaths and a lake which we may visit for a plunge (bring some sticks)!
We'll swim in the lake to clean ourselves off; we may need a dip in clean water as some streams in the forest have brown brackish water (from pine needles) which makes us dogs grubby.
There are three circular walks signed with three different colours. Choose the length of walk you want and follow the appropriate colour markers for your walk.
The longer walk takes two hours.
